Acosta Leads SJC Past SSCR in DAAM 2026 Basketball Encounter

JUNIOR JOSEPHIAN CHRONICLES

Saint Joseph College (SJC) secured a decisive 81–70 victory over San Sebastian College Recoletos (SSCR) in a competitive basketball match held during the Division Athletic Association Meet 2026 (DAAM 2026). The game took place yesterday afternoon at Montano Hall and was witnessed by a large crowd of students, teachers, and sports supporters.

The Josephians displayed discipline and composure throughout the game, pulling away in the final quarter after a closely contested first half. Both teams exchanged baskets early, keeping the score tight through consistent offensive plays and aggressive defense. However, SJC gained control of the game with improved ball movement and defensive pressure in the closing minutes.

Acosta led SJC’s campaign with an all-around performance, contributing crucial points and providing leadership on both ends of the court. His ability to penetrate the defense and convert key baskets sparked momentum for the Josephians. Cruz and De Galicia added support through steady shooting, while Causarin and Cruzado dominated the boards, limiting SSCR’s rebounding opportunities.

SJC also benefited from strong contributions off the bench. Dela Peña and Delos Angeles provided energy and hustle, while Flores, Feliciano, Manalansan, Muncal, Remigo, Santo, and Velustria played vital roles in maintaining defensive stability and executing set plays efficiently. Their teamwork and unselfish play proved essential in sustaining SJC’s lead. SSCR mounted a determined effort behind the performances of Ramirez, Villanueva, Torres, Mercado, Salazar, Alonzo, Navarro, and Castillo. Ramirez paced SSCR’s offense with consistent drives to the basket, while Torres and Villanueva attempted to keep the game within reach through perimeter shooting. Despite their efforts, turnovers and missed opportunities hindered SSCR’s comeback.

The turning point came in the final two minutes, when SJC went on a scoring run fueled by fast breaks and forced errors. Their disciplined defense and calm execution allowed them to close out the game successfully.

With the win, Saint Joseph College advances further in the DAAM 2026 basketball tournament. The victory highlights the team’s preparation, teamwork, and leadership as they continue their campaign for the championship.
