Grace in White and Blue: A Mama Mary Look-Alike Experience
JUNIOR JOSEPHIAN CHRONICLES

Last October 21, our school held one of the most memorable and meaningful competitions I have ever witnessed, the Mama Mary Look-Alike Competition. As a Grade 7 student, watching this event felt special, calm, and exciting at the same time.
The title of the competition already explained its purpose. It was a friendly contest that highlighted the beauty of our schoolmates and how they resembled Mama Mary. But it was not only about looking beautiful. It was more about showing the values that Mama Mary represents like humility, faith, grace, and love. Mama Mary is known as a humble and faithful woman chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus. Many people see her as beautiful, but her true beauty comes from her kindness, obedience, and selflessness. This was also the main goal of the competition: to show that real beauty comes not only from appearance, but also from the heart.
The event was held at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Solitude of Porta Vaga (San Roque Church) in Cavite. Candidates from different grade levels were seated in the middle rows, patiently waiting for their turn. When they were called, they walked to the front wearing dresses inspired by different images of Mama Mary, such as Our Lady of Porta Vaga, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Mater Admirabilis. Their outfits were simple yet elegant, and their faces looked calm and gentle, just like how Mama Mary is usually portrayed. The atmosphere inside the church was peaceful.
Overall, the Mama Mary Look-Alike Competition was more than just a contest. It gave students a chance to express their faith and reflect Mama Mary’s values. It reminded us that being beautiful means being kind, humble, and faithful just like our Mother Mary.
